After studying Architecture in the early 1970's Malcolm decided on a career change and started working as an Operations/Crew Planning Officer for British Midland Airways (Now bmi).  In 1976 he was employed in the same capacity by Britannia Airways - now Thomson Airways - and obtained his PPL through the Britannia Flying Club.  Soon after achieving this he was fortunate enough to be offered a sponsorship by Britannia, and this led to him being employed by them in 1983 as a First Officer on the 'Classic' Boeing 737-200.  Almost uniquely in aviation he remained with just the one employer until retiring in 2009 under a Voluntary Redundancy agreement.  At that time he had 17,800 hours on Boeing 737, 757 and 767 aircraft, obtained while flying on a wide variety of routes serving both short and long haul destinations.  Malcolm tries to give students a real feel of what it is like to be part of an Airline Crew when having to deal with various day-to-day scenarios that are based on his own, and that of his colleagues, experiences.
